School of HRLR Professional Development welcomes new director

CELEBRATING DR. TINA RILEY AND LOOKING TO THE FUTURE WITH NEW PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR DR. MEVAN JAYASINGHE

MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations’ (HRLR) Professional Development unit will continue its tradition of providing premier professional education and certification programs under the new leadership of Associate Director of Outreach and Director of Professional Development, Mevan Jayasinghe.

After a cumulative 15 years as School of HRLR Associate Director and Director of Professional Development, Dr. Tina Riley plans to step away from her role as Director of Professional Development to focus on teaching and research.

During her time as Director, Dr. Riley transformed the Professional Development unit into an educational partner and leader, offering a broad variety of programs in multiple formats, to meet the needs of HR and labor relations professionals across the globe. Those who have attended one of Dr. Riley’s training sessions, will be happy to learn that Tina will continue as an expert facilitator of HRLR Professional Development courses, in addition to her academic teaching and research.

From Dr. Riley: “It has been my pleasure to serve as a part of the School's leadership team in these ways for the past 15 years. My successor, Mevan Jayasinghe, is an outstanding colleague and scholar. He brings great insight, enthusiasm, and innovation to the role. I look forward to the growth that is sure to take place with his leadership.”

WELCOME DIRECTOR MEVAN JAYASINGHE

Associate Professor, Associate Director of Outreach and Director of Professional Development and Labor Education Programs, Dr. Mevan Jayasinghe, joined the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations in 2013. His research expertise include international human resource management, corporate social responsibility and working conditions in global supply chains, and high-performance work systems.

Professor Jayasinghe has taught graduate and undergraduate courses on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, High-Performance Work Systems, Human Resource Strategy, and the undergraduate capstone course focusing on Human Capital and Society.

Dr. Jayasinghe’s research has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. He has been recognized with the International HRM Scholarly Research Award from the Academy of Management and the Best Dissertation Award from the Industry Studies Association.
