Human Resource Practices and Employment Relations in Korea

The goal of this course is to provide students with a deep understanding of the employment relations system and human resource practices in South Korea. The course will take students to Seoul, South Korea and will cover the following topics: human resource practices in leading South Korean companies; the role of employers, labor unions, and the state in determining employment relations; and human resource development and high performance management practices at the firm level. The course will provide students with lectures from South Korean professors and human resource executives, direct contact with leaders in South Korean human resource and employment relations through visits to South Korean employers (including Samsung, LG, SK, and GS) and lectures from government labor officials. In addition, students will have opportunities to network with South Korean graduate students.
