Alternative work arrangements, changing nature of work, workforce/employment policy, employment relationship, inequality.
Hye Jin Rho is an Assistant Professor at the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations at Michigan State University. She holds a PhD in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management with the Institute for Work and Employment Research (IWER).
Professor Rho's research focuses on the changing nature of work and organizations and its implications for employment processes and outcomes dictating the future of work. In her recent work, she examines an understudied phenomenon governing alternative work arrangements today—the rise in the "multi-layered labor contracting" structure that distances workers from firms where they do work—and its impact on worker pay disparities. She employs both quantitative and qualitative methods in her research, at the intersection of labor relations, sociology of work, and applied labor economics.
Her projects have received funding from Alfred P. Sloan foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, as well as the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA).
