Dual MHRLR/JD Degree Program with MSU College of Law

The Benefits of the Dual Degree

Human resources (HR) and labor relations intersects with law in many ways. As an HR professional, you can be at the frontline of preventing discrimination in the workplace and you will likely make decisions that directly impact someone's livelihood.

An HR degree combined with a law degree will aid you in:

  • Bargaining with unions
  • Managing employee relations
  • Building equitable programming
  • Managing confidential personal records

The combination of a master’s degree in Human Resources and Labor Relations and a law degree will make you a sought-after hire in both professions, enhancing the value of both degrees.

One of these degrees can get you in the door but the other one is going to set you apart.

Typically, students would spend their first year taking required law school courses, and their second taking required MHRLR degree courses. A mixture of courses would be taken during the subsequent two years.
