2025 SHRM conference check in

Welcome to the MSU SHRM Conference!

East Lansing, MI — The annual MSU SHRM Conference took place on Friday, February 21, bringing together students, professionals, and alumni for a day of insightful discussions and networking. Centered around this year's theme, Work Redefined: Shaping the Future with Innovation & Talent, the event explored the evolving landscape of human resources and labor relations. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors—Chevron, Textron, Eaton, RTX, Honeywell, PepsiCo, and International Paper—whose commitment to fostering meaningful conversations and professional development opportunities helped create an engaging and impactful experience.

The conference kicked off with a keynote address from Chris Rice of Chevron, who shared his perspective on the strategic role HR plays in driving organizational success, with a particular focus on employee relations at Chevron. Throughout the day, breakout sessions and panel discussions covered a range of timely and relevant HR topics, exploring the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the field. Industry leaders from Honeywell, RTX, Eaton, PepsiCo, and Textron shared real-world insights and practical advice for aspiring HR professionals.

Later in the day, our very own faculty member Dr. Tara Behrend, MSU School of Human Resources & Labor Relations John Richard Butler II Endowed Professor, delivered a compelling second keynote on her research into the adoption of AI and technology in the workplace. Dr. Behrend is a leading expert in workplace technologies and their ethical and social implications, and her keynote provided thought-provoking insights that resonated deeply with attendees and underscored the importance of responsible innovation in HR practices.

As the day wrapped up, the enthusiasm and connections made were a testament to the value of bringing together diverse perspectives to shape the future of work. The MSU SHRM Conference continues to serve as a vital platform for learning, collaboration, and inspiration, leaving attendees with fresh ideas and a renewed passion for driving innovation in the field.
