2020 SHRLR Certificate in Working in a Virtual World

Now is the time to learn essential skills that will help you not only navigate our changing work world, but also adapt and thrive in times of organization change.

In the month of June, the School of Human Resources & Labor Relations is offering this special certification series, for undergraduate and graduate students, filled with real-world strategies for succeeding in a virtual world.

Emerging and working professional should opt for our Certificate in Virtual Workplace Leadership.

Choose any three of the following six sessions, offered one day a week every Thursday in the month of June. Each highly engaging session is 60-90 minutes, and every participant will receive a PDF notetaking guide. You are welcome to complete more than three, but only three sessions are required to earn your certification.

  • Essentials of Effective Workplace Communications

    June 4, 2020 // 10:00am–11:30am ET

    Regardless of your role, being able to communicate effectively is the key to success. This session will provide you with the knowledge you need to be a highly effective communicator.

  • Giving and Receiving Feedback as a Gift

    June 4, 2020 // 12:00pm–1:30pm ET

    Accurate, honest feedback is necessary for professional growth and development. Learning how to provide meaningful feedback and receive constructive feedback, can be a challenge. This session will give you a new outlook on feedback and the tools to use Feedback as a Gift.

  • Leading, and Participating in Effective Meetings

    June 11, 2020 // 10:00am–11:30am ET

    Meetings can be opportunities to share ideas, enhance creativity, and engage in critical thinking and problem solving. Too often, however, meetings are ineffective time wasters. This session will empower you to transform the meetings you are in from dull to dynamic and highly effective, regardless of your role in the meeting.

  • Zoom Etiquette

    June 11, 2020 // 12:00pm–1:30pm ET

    With so much work taking place via distance technology like Zoom, knowing how to present a professional image online is more important than ever before. This session will prepare you to put your best self forward during online meetings.

  • Networking at a Distance

    June 18, 2020 // 1:00pm–2:30pm ET

    Networking has always been important for career success. Now that so many people are working from home, engaging in effective networking is more challenging than ever. This session will provide you with strategies for building your professional network via distance technology.

  • Telework for People with Disabilities

    June 25, 2020 // 1:00pm–2:30pm ET

    The significant increase in working from home is causing us to rethink reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities. This session will explore telework as a reasonable accommodation and potential supervisory and communication challenges to this new working environment.
