Congratulations to SHRLR Associate Professor Mevan Jayasinghe, this year’s winner of the International HRM Scholarly Research Award sponsored by the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management. Published in the Journal of Management, Dr. Jayasinghe’s paper “Perceived Workplace Gender Discrimination and Employee Consequences: A Meta-analysis and Complementary Studies Considering Country Context” is identified by the Academy of Management as the year’s most significant article in International Human Resource Management.
Jayasinghe received his PhD in Business (Management and Human Resources) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013. He conducts international research on the effectiveness of strategic human resource investments and on disparities in job quality (pay, employment discrimination) across countries. His most recent work, centered in the context of global supply chains and using data from emerging economies such as Sri Lanka, examines the discretionary human resource investments made by supplier firms (e.g. voluntary labor codes, socially-responsible employment practices) and the impact of these investments on business performance and working conditions. His research has been published in leading scholarly journals, such as the Academy of Management Journal, the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Management, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the British Journal of Industrial Relations.
This is Jayasinghe’s second time receiving the International HRM Scholarly Research Award from the Academy of Management. He is also the recipient of the 2013 Best Dissertation Award from the Industry Studies Association. Professor Jayasinghe teaches graduate-level courses in negotiation and conflict resolution, high performance work systems, human resource strategy, and the Human Capital and Society undergraduate capstone course.
