The Distinguished Service Contributions Award recognizes an individual who has a record of significant service to SIOP.

Service contributions can be made in a variety of ways which include but are not limited to serving as an elected officer of the Society, the chair of a standing or ad hoc committee of the Society, a member of a standing or ad hoc committee of the Society, and a formal representative of the Society to other organizations. Recipients exhibit sustained service to the Society in multiple capacities, led new and innovative initiatives for the Society, or made significant enhancements to the Society.

Tara Behrend has dedicated 20 years of service to SIOP, contributing her expertise to 14 committees, including APA Program, Awards, Fellows, Futures Task Force, and External Affairs.

She played a key role in APA initiatives and served as TIP editor. SIOP president in 2023, she continues her leadership as past president. She is also a board member for the National Academies Board on Human-Technology Systems and the APA Board on Scientific Affairs.

Recognized for her ability to drive change, Dr. Behrend brings thoughtful decisiveness and action-oriented leadership to every role. SIOP Instruction and Educational Portfolio Officer Richard Landers praised her deep understanding of volunteer-driven organizations, noting her exceptional ability to navigate challenges and implement meaningful improvements throughout her tenure.
