Earning your SHRM-CP© (Certified Practitioner) or SHRM-SCP©(Senior Certified Practitioner) credential makes you a recognized expert and leader in the HR field—and a valuable asset to your organization, keeping you and your organization more competitive in today's economy. This professional distinction sets you apart from your colleagues, proving your high level of knowledge and skills.
The field of Human Resources is immense. It encompasses everything from understanding what an I-9 is to designing leadership matrix structures for global businesses. The need to understand it grows at an exponential rate as new challenges such as COVID-19 or changes in government administrations change laws and regulations. Keeping up to date is essential.
This program cannot teach you everything in the field. It’s not intended to. That’s why there are requirements to sit for the exam. This program is designed to help you earn your certification. It is broken into 3 parts: text book reading, online study and quizzes (very important), and instructor led sessions. Through these tools, you are given the higher essentials and allowed to focus on the areas you need to pass the exam.
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP? Aside from the educational and experience requirements, it is important to keep in mind that your foremost goal should be to earn the certification by passing the exam.
The SHRM certifications test your knowledge and your decision-making process. It provides a testament that you are both knowledgeable and able to put those skills to use. Each test, while the basics are the same, looks at things from a little different mindset.
The SHRM-CP exam approaches from the perspective of executing actions, policy implementation, and providing professional support in matters such as employee relations or staffing.
The SHRM-SCP exam is a bit different. It focuses more on creating strategic initiatives and cultivating program development.
Depending on the type of work you are immersed in daily, how you view things will be different. You should take the exam that reflects what you do! It will come more naturally for you.
SHRM provides a tool that may help assist in the decision making process. Selecting the right certification for you.
At Michigan State, we understand the learning process. As an official SHRM distributor, we are proud to offer a program specifically designed to get HR professionals ready for the SHRM-CP©/SHRM-SCP© examination.
Unlike other exam preparation courses that can be as short as 6-weeks, we believe our 14-week program is better suited to meet your needs, ensuring you have time to read the materials, take full advantage of the online resources, and longer access time to the instructor, who is an active certified practioner of the craft.
HR professionals who implement policies and strategies, serve as point of contact for staff and stakeholders, deliver HR services, and perform operational HR functions, should take the SHRM-CP©/SHRM-SCP© exam.
SHRM offers development grants for those that are not receiving any organizational support or reimbursement for SHRM certification exam and preparation fees. Visit the SHRM site to learn more.
This program has also been approved for 42 continuing education credit hours towards our Professional Development recertification, which will fulfill the two-year credit hour requirement needed for recertification.
Wanted to thank you for your instruction in aiding my success in passing the SHRM Exam. I know this would not have been possible without the class I took virtual through MSU. Your instruction, feedback, classroom dialogue, and encouragement were key to my success. Thank you!
